The US government is actively closing data centers.

By 2015, the US government plans to close approximately 800 data centers owned by federal and municipal governments. To maintain resources and accommodate growing traffic volumes, the country's authorities want to improve their own capacity in existing data centers and transition to a virtualization model.

This will be done using technologies from VMware, Red Hat, Microsoft, and Citrix. As a result of these measures, US authorities expect to save approximately $3 billion. At the same time, they plan to reduce data center operating costs and electricity consumption.

Delteck experts predict that spending on virtualization software will grow from $10 billion in 2011 to $13.7 billion by 2016.

DISA (Defense Information Systems Agency) will be one of the first to adopt the cloud computing model. Hewlett-Packard and VMware will be the project's primary IT partners.
