Priority reservations in the Cyrillic .РФ zone may be extended.

The Coordination Center for the Russian national domain .РФ plans to extend the priority reservation period for names. It is planned that trademark owners will be able to submit applications for registration in the Cyrillic domain zone beyond the previously planned March 25, 2010 deadline.

This was announced by Yulia Ovchinnikova, a member of the coordination center's board. This decision is due to the fact that many companies were unable to submit applications due to strict reservation rules.

The largest number of refusals were received by companies whose trademarks were written in both Latin and Cyrillic, or only in Latin. Currently, according to current regulations, Cyrillic domains can be assigned to companies whose trademarks are written in Cyrillic. Services such as Odnoklassniki.RU and Mail.ru have encountered such problems.

To improve the rules for priority registration, a special committee was created under the Coordination Center for the Russian national domain .РФ. At its meetings, each case was examined individually.

Regular users will be able to register domain names in the .РФ zone after the expiration of the priority registration period.
