Secondary domain market sales are growing.
Afternic and Sedo have released weekly sales reports, which report the number of transactions on the secondary domain market.
Thus, according to reports, public auctions account for approximately 10% of sales on the domain market.
Many private purchases are made through Escrow.com. Most domain transactions are conducted directly with end users, meaning these transactions are never made public.
Sales figures on Escrow.com at the beginning of the year grew by 29% compared to the same period in 2011. In monetary terms, the results are even more staggering – up to 45%, with the average transaction size increasing by 13%.
Similar trends are characteristic of other domain marketplaces, particularly Afternic and Sedo. The report's authors note that the most popular domain on the secondary market is .COM, although the number of ccTLD (national) domains sold has increased in the past year.
