The patent dispute between Rambus and NVIDIA continues.

Rambus, a microprocessor developer, has accused NVIDIA, a leading graphics subsystem manufacturer, of patent infringement. Rambus is demanding that NVIDIA pay a fine and royalties for the use of technologies to which Rambus owns the rights.

Rambus initially filed a complaint alleging infringement of five patents. However, US copyright authorities ruled that only three could be considered.

If Rambus wins the case against NVIDIA, the latter's products could be banned in the US.

The standoff between Rambus and Nvidia has been ongoing for years. Rambus has experience with similar cases – last week, Rambus reached a settlement with Samsung Electronics, agreeing to receive $900 million in royalties.

In addition, several cases are pending - Rambus against other leading companies: Hynix Semiconductors, Hynix and Micron Technology.

The number of patents Rambus claimed against NVIDIA fluctuated constantly. Initially, it was 17 patents, then Rambus claimed nine, and then the complaint contained only three.
