Elections for the head of the Coordination Center for the National Internet Domain were held.

The Board of the Coordination Center for TLD RU (Coordination Center for the Russian Internet Network) re-elected Andrey Kolesnikov for a second term as Director. This means Kolesnikov will hold his position for another three years.

During the election, Kolesnikov was competing against Vasily Dolmatov, Director of Research and Development at the Hosting Community (HC) group of companies. Other candidates had previously been nominated for the position, including Mikhail Yakushev, Vice President of Legal Affairs at Mail.ru Group, and Mikhail Medrish, former CTO of Akado-Stolitsa. However, the latter two candidates withdrew.

It is known that Kolesnikov was elected almost unanimously. During the Coordination Center meeting, Ilya Massukh, a state member of the Coordination Center board and Deputy Minister of Communications, promised that the ministry would more closely monitor the organization's activities.

It is known that the state has the right to veto decisions made by the council. However, if a government member of the council is absent from a meeting, the veto is ineffective. This happened, for example, several months ago, when new rules for registering domains in the .Ru and .РФ zones were adopted.

One of the main tasks of the head of the Coordination Center was to launch registrations in the Cyrillic domain .РФ. The launch was successful, judging by the number of registrations. However, the launch of .РФ registrations led to a scandal surrounding Ru-Center, the largest registrar of the RuNet.

Now the Coordination Center must resolve the issue of creating new regulations for registering expiring domains, for which only a temporary scheme currently exists.
