REG.RU has opened the acceptance of preliminary applications for the registration of two-character domains in the .SU zone.
Domain name registrar REG.RU has begun accepting preliminary applications for two-character domains in the Russian Federation's first national domain extension, .SU. Thanks to changes to the .SU Registration Rules, previously prohibited two-character domains will now be available in both Latin and Cyrillic scripts. Open registration for two-character domains in the .SU extension will begin on July 11, 2011, at 12:00 PM Moscow time.
Registration in the .SU zone is based on the "first come, first served" principle: the desired domain will be awarded to the user whose application is first submitted to the zone registry. Registrar REG.RU has opened pre-registration for two-character domains to give its customers an advantage: all applications will be submitted to the zone registry at the start of open registration. Currently, this service is offered in Russia only by REG.RU. Strictly adhering to the "first come, first served" principle, REG.RU accepts only one application per domain name and does not hold auctions among its clients.
REG.Premium, the registrar's unique recommendation service, will help you find an attractive .SU domain name. Thanks to a convenient system of intelligent filters and thematic categories (business, health, recreation, sports, beauty, etc.), finding a suitable domain name in the zone is significantly simplified. REG.Premium allows you to not only select a .SU domain name from available ones but also submit an application for its registration in just a few minutes.
The .SU domain extension was registered on September 19, 1990, for use in the USSR and is the oldest extension in the Russian Federation. By the time the .RU domain was introduced in April 1994, several thousand domains had already been registered in the .SU extension. The .SU domain continues to grow steadily today. According to the statistical service Stat.reg.ru, the total number of domains registered in the .SU extension currently exceeds 94,000, of which over 80% have been delegated, meaning they are ready for use. The increase in registered domains in the .SU extension in 2011 was over 2,500. 30.2% of .SU domains are less than a year old, indicating the domain's resurgent popularity.
