REG.RU has opened the registration process for Cyrillic domains in the .ORG zone.
On February 9, domain name registrar REG.RU began accepting preliminary applications for Cyrillic domains in the international .ORG zone. Domain registrations like moidomen.org will become available at the end of February 2011, when the international .ORG zone opens for registration of IDN domains (domain names containing national alphabet characters) in all languages.
Registration of IDN domains in the .ORG zone began in 2005 with the introduction of the German alphabet, followed by support for 10 more languages: Danish, Hungarian, Icelandic, Korean, Latvian, Lithuanian, Norwegian, Polish, Swedish, and Tamil. Finally, on February 19, 2011, at 10:00 PM (Moscow time), registration of .ORG IDN domains will become available in all languages, including Russian, Ukrainian, and Kazakh.
Among Russian registrars, REG.RU is now the only one accepting preliminary applications for IDN domain registrations in the .ORG zone. The cost of registering an IDN domain in the .ORG zone is the same as the standard registration fee for this zone, 450 rubles. Anyone can submit a preliminary application on the REG.RU website. REG.RU accepts only one application per domain name and does not hold auctions among its clients.
REG.RU specialists believe that IDN domains in the .ORG zone will be of primary interest to organizations, both non-profit and commercial. "By registering a Cyrillic name in the .ORG domain zone, specifically designed for them, non-profit organizations can expand their reach with a more easily understood name for their online presence. And for businesses, this is an excellent opportunity to obtain a catchy and memorable domain name, in case suitable names in the .RU and .РФ zones are already taken. The emergence of the .РФ domain, in which the number of registered names is currently approaching 800,000, has helped the Cyrillic alphabet prove its practical value and gain recognition among Russian internet users," commented Alexey Korolyuk, CEO of REG.RU.
Registration of IDN domains in the .ORG zone will be conducted in accordance with the main principle of domain name registration – the 'first come, first served' principle. REG.RU has opened pre-registration applications to give users and organizations interested in protecting their intellectual property and using a new, effective tool for promoting their online resources the opportunity to be the first to take advantage of the wide variety of available domain names.
The most popular domain names, according to experts, include three- and four-character domains, dictionary keywords, key search queries, and names that fully match the company or trademark name. REG.RU's unique intelligent services can help you choose the perfect domain name: REG.Choice selects a domain based on a keyword, and REG.Check checks the availability of multiple domains simultaneously.
