Reg.ru will service domains from Reseller Club.

Russian registrar Reg.ru willservice18,000 domains from the Estonian registrar EstDomains. This was the result of a deal between Reg.ru and Reseller Club, the registrar's owner.

Back in 2008, EstDomains was stripped of its accreditation by ICANN. Its domains were transferred to Reseller Club. Reseller Club, in turn, decided to transfer its Russian-speaking clients to its partner, Reg.ru.

EstDomains was stripped of its accreditation following an investigation by the online publication Security Fix, whose journalists discovered that EstDomains had registered numerous domains used for illegal purposes, including spam, fake antivirus software, and other malware.

In addition, domains were registered through EstDomains that installed malware, which allowed hackers to gain control of websites and redirect visitors to other pages.

In 2008, a Tartu court sentenced the company's CEO, Vladimir Tsatsin, to three years in prison for credit card fraud. Besides EstDomains, Tsatsin also owned Rove Digital, which runs the domain resale service Backler.com, and the web traffic generator Zmot.

According to ICANN rules, EstDomains was stripped of its accreditation because its CEO was found guilty of financial fraud. The company's accreditation was stripped despite the new CEO.

Estdomains' new successor, Reseller Club, has decided to transfer its Russian-speaking clients to Reg.ru, thereby providing them with Russian-language technical support and the ability to register domains in Russian domain zones.

The transfer of clients' personal accounts and domain names will take place from May 23 to May 28, 2011.
