Registrars are preparing for the new business season.

Hostmaster has released statistics on Ukrainian domain name registrations for August 2010. This month's data suggests that the Ukrainian registration market is once again showing growth, although not as vigorously as at the beginning of the year. This is likely due to preparations for the new business season. In August, the registration leaders of previous months regained their positions, and overall, the Ukrainian domain zone demonstrated strong growth.

The .UA domain zone

In August, the number of domains in the .UA zone increased by 163, reaching 9,900 names. However, the August figures for this domain zone were not as active as those in June and July.

The top two companies by number of registrations in this domain zone have remained unchanged since the beginning of the year. According to Hostmaster, Internet Invest remains the leader in this domain zone, with DNS-Ukraine LLC in second place and Thomas Private Enterprise in third.

The company "Bureau of Patent Attorneys "PatentService LTD" has moved up to fourth place, and fifth place belongs to LLC "Alaid Standard Limited".

The second half of the top 10 saw some changes. Sixth place went to Service Online and Ukraine-Host, while Freehost, Geonik Net LLC, and Delta-X LLC rounded out the top three.

Domain zone .COM.UA

In August, nearly 2,000 new names were registered in this domain zone. Overall, August also showed worse performance in this domain zone than, for example, June and July. Moreover, for the first time since the beginning of the year, this domain zone ceased to be the absolute leader in registrations, yielding to the Chernivtsi regional domain .CV.UA.

By the end of August, the total number of websites in this domain zone exceeded 183 thousand.

The COM.UA domain's top performers remained unchanged. Internet Invest leads by number of registrations, with Service Online in second place and Hostpro LLC in third. Freehost LLC and Allied Standard Limited also rounded out the top five.

This top five has not changed for almost six months.

The remaining five places were taken by registrars DNS-Ukraine LLC, Delta-X LLC, V.V. Gubarenko, Internet Name Center of Ukraine LLC, and Vyacheslav Yurievich Cherkashin.

The .KIEV.UA domain zone

In August, the .KIEV.UA domain zone suffered losses, with the number of domains in it decreasing by almost 500. This is the first time since the beginning of the year that this domain zone has shown such a negative result.

Among the top three registrarsdomain.KIEV.UA was again occupied by the company "Internet Invest", in second place was sole proprietor Mesiura Sergey Vladimirovich, in third place was "Service Online", places 4 and 5 were taken by private enterprise "Freehost" and LLC "Alaid Standard Limited".

The following registrars shared places from sixth to tenth: Sole proprietor Konstantin Vladimirovich Kravchenko, DNS-Ukraine LLC, Hostpro LLC, Delta-X LLC, and Center for Internet Names of Ukraine LLC.

Overall ranking of registrars for August

Hostmaster doesn't disclose how many domains each registrar has registered. Furthermore, the number of domains in the three domain extensions varies greatly. For example, the .UA extension accounts for only 1.91% of all domains on the Ukrainian Internet, COM.UA for 35.27%, and KIEV.UA for 8.44%.

Therefore, for example, the fourth place of Patent Attorney Bureau Patentservice LTD in the .UA domain does not guarantee its presence among the leaders of the overall ranking. At the same time, the leaders of the largest domain zone, COM.UA, also become leaders in the overall ranking.

Taking into account the registrar shares in the three domains, as well as the weight of each zone in the overall structure of the Ukrainian domain space, we present a final table of registrars for August.

Thus, according to the results of July, the top three Ukrainian registrars were “Imena”, “NIC.UA” and “Freehost”.
