Russian registrars are preparing to launch geodomains in the Cyrillic .РФ domain zone. For example, the St. Petersburg-based company Netfox intends to promote the new domain zone ".спб.рф."

The company is prepared to sell addresses at a fixed price of 50,000 rubles per address during the premium registration period.

Until recently, there were several special domains in the .ru zone where free registration was available (.spb.ru, .com.ru, .pp.ru and several others).

Since April 2010, they have ceased to be free. Market participants considered the availability of free domains a factor hindering the Russian segment of the global network as a whole.

St. Petersburg registrar Netfox previously serviced free domains in the .msk.ru and .spb.ru zones, but the company is now ready to launch third-level domains in the ".рф" zone.
