January Domain Ratings: Two Clear Leaders on the Uanet

More domains were registered in January 2010 than in January 2009.

Hostmaster has released its domain name registration results for January 2010. The traditionally slow business season has also impacted the domain registration market. In January, the number of new domains totaled only 4,700. This is significantly lower than in the previous few months, when growth was much greater. For example, in December 2009, the number of domains increased by 6,700, in November by 11,000, and in October by 15,000. However, the first month of 2010 data was better than the results of the previous year, when the number of domains decreased by 758 in January 2009.

The total number of Ukrainian Internet domains as of February 1, 2010 was 488,334.

- Data on the domain zone .UA

The number of domains in the .UA zone increased by 90 in January, a growth rate of only 1%. The total number of domains as of February 1, 2010, was 8,620.

Last month, Hostmaster published a ranking of Ukrainian registrars on its website. This data was used by proIT in its "Domain Distribution" series. However, by January, the ranking was no longer available on Hostmaster's website. Access to the statistics is now restricted to registrars. Furthermore, statistics for previous months were also unavailable.

In this regard, in this publication “proIT” uses statistics from the same “Hostmaster”, obtained from its own .

Thus, based on the results of January, Internet Invest LLC remains the leader in the number of registrations in the .UA second-level domain. DNS-Ukraine LLC confidently holds second place, and Service Online is third. Elaid Standard Limited LLC, in fourth place, and TOMAS Private Enterprise, in fifth place, also rounded out the top five.

The remaining five places were taken by the following registrars: Ukraine-Host LLC, Freehost PE, 1 Gb LLC, Vyacheslav Yuryevich Cherkashin PP, Valentin Vyacheslavovich Soloviev PE, Geonik Net LLC, and Center for Internet Names of Ukraine LLC.

- Data on the COM.UA domain zone

In January of this year, the number of new names in the .COM.UA domain zone reached 2,376. This domain zone has traditionally proven to be the most popular on the Ukrainian internet. The total number of registered names here is over 163,000. Every third domain name on the Ukrainian internet, or approximately 33% of all domains, is currently registered in the .COM.UA zone.

According to statistics, Internet Invest LLC leads in the number of registrations in this domain, with Service Online in second place and Freehost in third. Elaid Standard Limited LLC and Hostpro LLC also rounded out the top five.

The remaining five places were taken by the following registrars: DNS-Ukraine LLC, V.V. Gubarenko, Private Entrepreneur, Roman Viktorovich Varshavsky, S.V. Mesyura, and 1 Gb LLC.

- Data on the KIEV.UA domain zone

The .KIEV.UA domain zone experienced the slowest growth rate, with the number of domains increasing by just 0.8% or 338 names, reaching 41,000 domains.

According to January results, the top three companies in this domain zone are Internet Invest, Service Online, and Freehost. DNS-Ukraine LLC is in fourth place, and Allied Standard Limited is in fifth.

The following registrars took places from sixth to tenth, respectively: Hostpro, Adamant, Farlep-Invest, Delta-X, and DiMedia.
