Rospatent has registered a trademark for the scent of genuine leather.
The Russian patent office Rospatent announced the registration of a trademark for a square leather tag that has a "pronounced scent of genuine leather." The trademark was received by perfumer Natalia Kolyago.
The resulting trademark became the first scent-based trademark in Russia registered by Rospatent. Patent attorneys note the difficulty of registering such trademarks, which is also an indirect reason why such trademarks have not been registered previously.
According to Natalia Kolyago, the new trademark will represent her perfume with the scent of genuine leather.
In the spring of 2012, the first tactile trademark was registered in Russia, echoing the outline of the logo of the All-Russian Society of the Blind. The rights to this trademark belong to the "Fund for Mutual Assistance of the Blind and Visually Impaired with an Active Lifestyle."
