Russia has become one of the world's leading countries for malicious hosting.

Experts from the analytics company G Data Software have presented their ranking of countries by malware hosting.

The United States, France, and Puerto Rico shared first place, followed by Ukraine, Germany, and Russia, and Spain, India, Poland, Austria, and Bangladesh rounding out the group of dangerous countries.

Countries that offer the cheapest website hosting and the most developed digital infrastructure are the most dangerous in terms of malicious hosting, according to analysts.

Furthermore, this factor is also influenced by the country's internet legislation. Experts believe that government leniency in internet policy makes countries more attractive to cybercriminals.

"Countries that offer convenient web hosting aren't necessarily the most infected. Borders as such don't exist on the internet," analyzes Alexey Demin, Head of Corporate Sales for Russia and the CIS at G Data Software. "There are some restrictions imposed by government agencies related to domain registration, resource registration, and the obligation to be responsible for hosted content. However, none of these measures, naturally, can stop cybercrime. A spammer or virus distributor may be blocked in one country, but with a backup, they can be restored in a neighboring country within minutes. The fight against cybercrime is somewhat like the fight for clean air. It will only be successful if everyone, without exception, is involved."
