Russian domain registrars will work with law enforcement agencies.

Russia plans to make it mandatory for domain registrars to cooperate with law enforcement agencies. To this end, companies providing domain name registration services must "have employees authorized to promptly interact with law enforcement agencies."

This issue was raised at a government meeting dedicated to improving legislation in the IT sector.

This regulation isn't yet legally binding, but is still under discussion. A working group has been established in Russia to adapt current legislation to the realities of the internet. The group's members plan to strengthen government oversight of the internet. Specifically, law enforcement agencies will be able to quickly obtain information about domain name owners or individuals using a specific IP address.

It is not yet known whether the changes will affect only RU domain owners or also those who registered international domains through Russian registrars.
