Russian registrars may lose their accreditation

As a result of the Federal Antimonopoly Service's investigation, Russian registrars may be stripped of their accreditation. Furthermore, domains registered to these companies may be revoked.

This was reported by Andrey Kolesnikov, Director of the Coordination Center for the National Internet Domain.

As a reminder, at the end of last week, the Federal Antimonopoly Service opened a case against six registrars, accusing them of concerted actions.

Commenting on this situation, Andrey Kolesnikov stated that "registering one's name in itself doesn't violate the rules, but Ru-Center first registered the domains in its own name, and only then in the name of its clients," Kolesnikov noted. This resulted in problems with clients who applied for domain registration.

In addition, some registrars held internal auctions for the most attractive domain names.

The Coordination Center intends to impose sanctions on such registrars, ranging from issuing warnings to revoking their accreditation. Furthermore, Kolesnikov emphasized, all domains registered by these registrars may be frozen. A freeze means the suspension of all actions with the domains.

A meeting of the Coordination Center's board is scheduled for November 29 to discuss the situation, including the procedure for revoking registrars' accreditation.
