Russian and Ukrainian Cyrillic domains are developing in the same way

The IT-IMK publication published an interview with Mikhail Yakushev, Chairman of the Board of the Coordination Center for the .RU Domain (CCTLD.RU), in which he answered questions about the challenges in implementing the Russian and Ukrainian Cyrillic domains.Mikhail Yakushev believes that Russia is at the same stage as Ukraine in registering Cyrillic domains.

In Russia, drawing on the experience of the European Union, they concluded that registrars and companies need to pre-reserve some domain names for the benefit of government agencies, trademark owners, and other intellectual property owners. Ukraine should also provide for similar protection for domain names, Yakushev believes.

In addition, before registering in the Cyrillic domain zone, you need to consider the requirements that will apply to domain name administrators, as well as the information that must be obtained before registration.

Mikhail Yakushev believes that the administration of interregional geographic domains is no less important. An example of such domains is the Karpati.ukr domain.

Yakushev notes the importance of representing different trademarks on Cyrillic domains. After all, company and brand names can be rendered in Cyrillic in different ways. Not all trademarks are registered in Cyrillic. This is especially true for the names of automobile manufacturers and foreign companies. Furthermore, transliteration or transcription of foreign terms and words is possible.
