RU-CENTER has begun registration in the .XXX domain.
Starting from September 7, RU-CENTER began accepting applications for domain registration in the .XXX domain zone.
The priority registration period will run from September 7 to October 28. During this period, only adult industry representatives—those with exclusive rights to trademarks—can register names, provided they were registered before September 1, 2011.
Additionally, companies can submit a domain name blocking request. Blocking .XXX domains will help prevent unwanted use of the domain name by third parties. A domain name can only be blocked if there are no other requests for it from other porn industry representatives who own the rights to the same brand in their industry.
Application fees start at 7,900 rubles. After receiving applications, Ru-Center will forward them to ICM Registry, the .XXX domain administrator, for processing.
If the domain is not registered, the cost of the domain will be returned to the applicant, but the application review fee will not be refunded.
If multiple applications are submitted for a single domain, it will be put up for private auction, in which applicants will be able to participate. The auctions will take place during the "Landrush Period," which begins on November 8. Domain registration in the .XXX zone will open to everyone on December 6.
ICM Registry previously announced that it had already sold 1,500 names, earning $4 million from them.
Let us recall that the introduction of the .XXX domain was approved in the spring of 2011, although discussions about the launch of this domain zone had been going on since 2000.
ICM Registry believes that the creation of such a domain zone will make it easy to restrict access to pornographic sites for underage users.
Additionally, ICM Registry guarantees that .XXX websites will be virus-free – all .XXX websites will be scanned for malicious code.
