Ru-Center faces attacks on DNS servers

Hackers launched a massive attack on the DNS servers of the Russian registrar Ru-Center.

The company's management has already contacted law enforcement agencies to identify the perpetrators of the attacks.

"This week, we've seen particularly strong DDoS attacks. The attackers are targeting the company's DNS servers. We've already notified the relevant authorities, specifically the "K" department, and are working with our partners to protect against the attacks," said Andrey Vorobyov, director of public relations at Ru-Center.

If DNS servers were successfully attacked, users would not be able to use the symbolic addresses of websites, so this would effectively mean that the websites themselves would be disabled.

Ru-Center's DNS servers serve approximately 500,000 internet resources. The company reported the presence of protection against DDoS attacks, which likely kept the resources operational. Furthermore, Ru-Center reports that even if the DNS servers are down, the caching system will allow websites to remain accessible for up to 24 hours. This should be enough time to resolve the issue.

In the worst case, most domains will be unavailable within five hours of the outage.

"However, this time may be sufficient to carry out measures to correct the situation and connect backup capacity," company representatives report.
