Ru-Center has completed repeated closed auctions for .РФ domains.
The Ru-Center domain registrar began open registration of .РФ domains on November 11, 2010. Initially, Ru-Center registered domains through pre-orders, with clients submitting requests between September 21 and November 10, 2010. In total, approximately 135,000 pre-orders were received for open registration of .РФ domains.
Domain pre-orders are available when two or more bids are received for a single domain. In this case, a closed auction for the domain name ownership was held. 24,743 .РФ domains were included in these auctions. According to Ru-Center rules, a domain is withdrawn from auction if there is an appeal from the copyright holder and state and municipal authorities. Thus, 263 domains were withdrawn from auction during the first auction round, and another 2 in the second. These domains were transferred to state and municipal authorities, trademark holders, and other trademark holders.
The average number of bidders per domain was three, but some domains attracted several hundred bids. The top bidder was "авто.рф." During the bidding period, 562 bids were received. Several other domains followed, each with approximately 300 bids. However, due to the Moscow Arbitration Court's pending lawsuit by the owner of the trademark of the same name, the "авто.рф" domain was withdrawn from the auction.
The first round of auctions concluded in December. During the auction, 23,117 domains were purchased. The highest bids for six domains reached $10,000 (office.rf, gold.rf, games.rf, maxim.rf, polygraphia.rf, and machine.rf). Domains that failed to determine an owner were re-auctioned.
The second round of auctions followed the following rules: if no more than three bidders participated in the closed auction and the domain was not purchased, it was put up for public auction; domains from failed auctions in which more than three bidders participated were put up for a repeat closed auction; Those who failed to pay the best or second bid from the previous auction were not allowed to participate in the repeat closed auction.
Following the first round, 1,363 domains remained unclaimed. Of these, 914 received more than one confirmed bid and were re-bid through closed auctions, which concluded on January 18. The domains "holodilniki.rf" and "karnizy.rf" were withdrawn from the auctions following requests from the owners of the trademarks, and the remaining 449 domains will be auctioned publicly.
As of January 19, 2011, the most expensive domain purchased was "freelancer.rf", for which the auction winner had to pay 67,169 rubles.
By 12:00 PM on January 19, 223 domain names had been sold. Payment for purchased domains will be available until January 28, 2011. If the first bidder fails to make payment, the domain will be available for repurchase within 10 days.
Ru-Center will use the funds raised during the auctions for various social programs.
