UNESCO welcomes ICANN's initiative to introduce multilingual domain names, according to UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova.on the organization's blog.

According to Irina Bokova, "UNESCO has been a consistent supporter of this measure. The internet must be linguistically diverse, enabling all language groups to utilize its unique capabilities. Thanks to the signed agreement, UNESCO and ICANN will be able to work together to connect even more people to this information network."

Multilingual domains will open up internet access for users whose native language is not English.

The agreement between UNESCO and ICANN emphasizes that multilingual domains will be able to promote the popularization of the Internet in developing and least economically developed countries.
