RuNet is lobbying for the introduction of internet domains for major cities.

During the Russian Internet Week (RIW–2010) conference, the creation of the "Union for the Development of Geographical and Cultural-Linguistic Domains of Russia" was announced. This Union will provide full support for the initiative to introduce domains for major cities.

As a reminder, several months ago, an initiative was announced to introduce the top-level domains .МОСКВА and .МОСКВА. This initiative follows those of other major cities, such as Berlin, London, Paris, and others, who also want to acquire top-level domains.

The emergence of such domain zones will become possible as a result of the introduction of new rules for the delegation of top-level domain names by the ICANN organization.

ICANN plans to launch the New gTLD Program next year. This program allows any legal entity to apply for its own top-level domain by paying an initial application fee of $185,000.
