The dispute over the burgerking.ru domain continues on the RuNet.

Due to problems with the domain name burgerking.ru, the Burger King restaurant chain's launch in Russia has been postponed. The domain name burgerking.ru was registered back in 2000 by the Dutch company Talco Aktiengesellschaft. The company refused to voluntarily transfer its domain name to Burger King, so Burger King representatives were forced to file a lawsuit.

During negotiations between Burger King and Talco Aktiengesellschaft, the main point of contention was the price of the domain.

At the end of November, Burger King filed a lawsuit against the Russian registrar Elvis-Telecom and the Dutch company Talco Aktiengesellschaft, accusing them of violating the provisions "on the protection of patent rights" and "illegal use of a trademark."

Burger King representatives have labeled the Dutch company cybersquatters. Burger King plans not only to obtain the domain name but also to seek 5 million rubles in compensation.

According to the Russian Civil Code, a trademark owner has the exclusive right to use the corresponding designation in the internet addressing system (domain name). It's worth noting that Burger King registered its first trademark, "Burger King," in Russia back in 1994.
