RuNet websites will be shut down at the first request of the police.

According to the draft new rules for registering domains in the .RU zone, published on the website of the Coordination Center for the National Internet Domain, the procedure for closing a website will be significantly simplified.

The Coordination Center will be able to cancel the delegation of a domain name, that is, effectively shut down the site, upon a letter from the agency conducting operational investigative activities.

In addition, the document states that in order to register a new domain name, it will be necessary to provide a mobile phone number by which the site administrator can be contacted.

Experts note that the new rules will strengthen control over the Russian segment of the Internet.
