Siemens sues LG and Samsung for patent infringement

Siemens is accusing LG and Samsung of infringing a patent on technology used in LED-backlit TVs and conventional household light bulbs.

The company has filed lawsuits against LG and Samsung in Germany and the United States, where the claims were filed with the Federal Trade Commission in Washington. The company also plans to file lawsuits in courts in China and Japan.

The revelations surrounding the patents come as Siemens prepares to sell its controlling stake in Osram. Ahead of Osram's IPO, Siemens, which owns a stake in Osram, is attempting to increase its value by selling its controlling stake.

Moreover, experts are confident that Siemens is using patent lawsuits to try to protect its technologies from competition from Chinese competitors.

Let us recall that one of the main patent disputes of recent months has been the dispute between Apple, Samsung, Nokia, Motorola and HTC.
