Netcraft, an internet monitoring company, published a monthly report showing that 284.8 million websites were online as of February 1. Among the software web servers that serve websites, Apache saw the largest increase in its database.

Netcraft reports that this server has increased its website base by 9.6 million, or 1% of the total. Experts have noted that the Apache server has shown clear positive growth since the beginning of 2011. Last month, the server's usage increased, primarily due to the ISPs AmeriNOC and Softlayer.

Nginx and lighttpd servers also showed good results, although lighttpd's market share has remained virtually unchanged since last year.

According to the report, Microsoft and Google experienced negative growth as they significantly reduced the number of websites they hosted. Microsoft suffered the largest losses in the German market, where Kabel Deutschland largely abandoned Microsoft IIS hosting.
