Free registration for the .XXX domain has begun.

Starting today, December 6th, registration for the .XXX adult domain zone will begin. Registration will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis.

When registering a .XXX domain, registrants will be required to provide a valid phone number. Representatives of the domain administrator, ICM Registry, will contact the registered user at this number and provide them with a personal PIN for registration. Upon receiving this number, the user will become a member of the Adult Industry Community and receive a Membership Contact ID.

As a reminder, the .XXX domain priority registration period lasted from September 7 to October 28, 2011. During this period, applications for domains were accepted from adult industry representatives who held exclusive rights to trademarks registered before September 1, 2011. Additionally, during this period, adult industry representatives who wished to obtain a .XXX domain name confusingly similar to their second- or third-level domain name in other top-level domains were also able to obtain their domains.

Beginning November 8, the Landrush period (premium registration period) for .XXX domains began, during which applications were accepted from representatives of the adult industry who were not eligible to apply during the first priority registration period.

ICM Registry, the administrator of the .XXX domain, promises to check .XXX websites for illegal content, with a particular focus on child pornography. If such content is detected, such resources will be blocked.

Previously, companies and individuals could block the use of specific .XXX domains, such as those that matched an actor's name or a company's name.

ICANN, the Internet Corporation that regulates the development of the Internet, approved the creation of the .xxx domain in the summer of 2010.
