"This sample is quite representative," comments Igor Gorin, Director of Portmone.com. "This is evidenced by data provided by the NBU: according to the results of the first quarter of 2010, 24 million non-cash transactions were conducted in Ukraine using payment cards issued by Ukrainian banks. During this period, more than 2.1 million successful transactions were processed in the Portmone.com system, which represents 9% of all non-cash transactions using payment cards."
As for the ranking itself, we see only minor fluctuations: the top three have remained unchanged for several consecutive rankings. The fluctuations in the rankings of the remaining participants are a consequence of their marketing activity."
"As the ranking shows, approximately 60% of online payments using plastic cards on Uanet are handled by the top three leading Ukrainian banks, which have once again maintained their previous leading positions. The gap from the rest of the top 10, even comparing third and fourth positions, appears quite significant. It's highly likely that the top three in the next ranking will remain the same, but the "battle for customers" between banks in the middle appears quite intense. Considering the significant share of other banks (21%), it's quite possible that newcomers will appear in the lower positions of the next ranking," comments MoneyNews Editor-in-Chief Sergey Stetsenko.
