Market participants are unhappy with Verisign's domain blocking system.

Registrars and domain administrators are unhappy with VeriSign's proposed domain name blocking system.

VeriSign plans to block access to domains that distribute viruses or contain inappropriate content.

Domain registrars believe the proposed system sets a dangerous precedent, creating a conflict between registrars and administrators, as the new system would allow administrators to gain additional control over registrars' activities.

However, it is the registrars who are responsible for enforcing domain registration policies.

Six European registrars have expressed dissatisfaction with VeriSign's rules. They believe the new rules effectively make registrars responsible for the content hosted on their domains.

In addition, the registrar community will have to face a barrage of criticism from domain owners.

VeriSign's new rules were also criticized by the American Civil Liberties Union and the Electronic Frontier Foundation.
