.УКР — for Ukraine and Ukrainians

On March 19, 2013, the procedure for delegation of the .УКР domain was completed (.xn--j1amh) is the national Cyrillic top-level domain for Ukraine. On March 20, the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA)updated the domain recordThis means that the .УКР domain has already appeared in the root domain name system!

The first application for this domain was submitted to ICANN on November 16, 2009. On March 1, 2011, the domain successfully passed technical and linguistic verification, and two years later, .УКР finally entered the world.

The Ukrainian Network Information Center (USIC) became the domain administrator. It was, in fact, the one that initiated the creation of .УКР.

It's great that a new player is entering our market, and Hostmaster will no longer be able to maintain its previous monopoly. I believe that competition among administrators will accelerate the development of national domains. The changes are already evident—users will finally have a Ukrainian top-level domain that can be registered without a trademark.

The first .УКР domains were recently delegated:test.ukr,usits.ukr And уміц.укр.

Incidentally, the Cyrillic top-level domain for Ukraine could have been completely different. Before submitting the application, various spelling variations were considered, including .УКР, .УА, .УК, and even .УЇ.
