Ukraine ranks seventh in the world for the number of spam botnets.

According to Symantec's Global Information Security Report, Ukraine ranked seventh in terms of the number of spam botnets. Last year, our country ranked only twentieth on the list. Furthermore, Ukrainian bots were recognized as the longest-lived – they rank ninth globally in terms of operational duration, with an average active period of 10 days.

For the first time, Ukraine has entered the list of the most dangerous countries with the largest number of malicious programs – spam botnets, phishing, and network attacks.

In the overall ranking of internet threats over the year, Ukraine rose from 31st to 23rd place.

Kyiv leads the Ukrainian city in terms of malware prevalence, followed by Lviv, Odesa, Makiivka, and Donetsk.

In addition, these Ukrainian cities were among the top 10 in terms of the number of malicious programs (the percentage of the global number of bots hosted on PCs in this city is indicated in parentheses)

  1. Kyiv - 0.1048
  2. Lviv - 0.0331
  3. Odessa - 0.0321
  4. Makeyevka - 0.0242
  5. Donetsk - 0.0196
  6. Chernivtsi - 0.0103
  7. Anthracite - 0.0101
  8. Gorlovka - 0.0100
  9. Kharkov - 0.0097
  10. Dnepropetrovsk - 0.0076

Experts note that the increase in malware is due to the increased availability and affordability of attack tools. A customer can now launch an attack on a competitor for $200.

Symantec cites the increase in the spread of viruses through social networks and the increase in the amount of malware for mobile devices as one of the characteristics of last year.

India leads the world in spam volume, accounting for over 9% of global spam traffic.

Here are a few more positions in the ranking that Ukraine occupied:

  • Spam zombie – 3rd place;
  • network attacks – 9th place;
  • phishing – 10th place;
  • web attacks – 11th place;
