Ukraine plans to monitor users' internet activity

The country's authorities are once again attempting to control the internet activities of their citizens. The Ukrainian government has prepared new draft rules for internet service provision for operators and service providers. These rules require providers to have specialized equipment that would allow the state to monitor internet user activity.

In addition, equipment is planned to be installed at traffic exchange points to evaluate internet access speeds and penalize providers if they do not match actual speeds.

At the same time, the SBU plans to install equipment for reading information from data transmission networks.

A similar system has been installed in Latvia. It records the IP address and website a user visited. This can be used to combat terrorism or, for example, the distribution of child pornography.
