The Like trademark has appeared in Ukraine.
The trademark owner was the Ukrainian company Open Media Group, which received a patent through an accelerated procedure in two months, from May to July 2011.
Apparently, the Like trademark was needed to register the like.ua domain, which currently hosts a news aggregator.
Interestingly, all news posted on like.ua are equipped with "Like!" buttons and a counter. Like could arguably be considered a social news service. However, its launch right now seems odd, as many sites of this type are losing popularity to social networks, particularly Facebook, which popularized the common English word "Like."
The like.ua trademark was registered for three service classes: 38 (providing access to the global computer network, e-mail, communication via computer terminals, telecom services) 41, 42 (the last two coincide with Facebook's Russian application).
AIN reported that at the end of December, the social network Facebook filed an application to register the Like trademark in Russia under three classes of the International Classification of Goods and Services: 9 (software), 41 (blogs, electronic publications) and 42 (computer services, communities, transmission and sharing).
