Ukrainian Internet exchange point UA-IX is ready for the transition to IPv6.
At the end of November this year, the RIPE NCC management changed the RIPE-451 rules, which regulate the procedure for allocating IPv6 addresses for European Internet Exchange Points.
In the previous version of the document, it was possible to refuse to provide IPv6 addresses to any of the traffic exchange points.
Thanks to the new changes, the long-standing problem of obtaining IPv6 addresses by the Ukrainian traffic exchange point UA-IX has been resolved.
As a result of these changes, the UA-IX point received a block of special IPv6 addresses 2001:7F8:5D::/48.
As a reminder, IPv6 (Internet Protocol version 6) is a new version of the IP protocol, which allows for a virtually unlimited number of addresses. While IPv4 uses 32 bits to represent addresses, IPv6 uses 128 bits.
