Ukrainian MPs are again interfering with the work of Internet providers.
The Verkhovna Rada adopted in the first reading a bill requiring internet providers to restrict free access to websites or parts thereof that the National Morality Commission has determined to be erotic.
The document proposes amendments to the Law on the Protection of Public Morality. The document states that, by court order, internet providers may, within 24 hours, technically remove content that harms public morality from the national segment of the internet or, if the website is located outside of Ukraine, block access to it.
At the same time, the authorities want to ensure state procurement for the development and distribution of specialized equipment with parental control over television and online content, as well as introduce criteria for classifying computer games based on the age of consumers.
Similar requirements will be imposed on mobile internet content providers.
Furthermore, the deputies proposed creating a Unified Specialized Information and Telecommunications System for Data on the State of Public Morality. The system will be managed by the National Expert Commission on the Protection of Public Morality.
Earlier, representatives of the Internet Association of Ukraine called it technically impossible for internet providers to restrict free access to websites.
