Ukrainian domains are testing the apostrophe symbol.

Last week, three domain names containing an apostrophe appeared on the Ukrainian Internet. Among them were Dmitry Kokhmanyuk's domain ʼ.ua, as well as the domains мʼясо.kh.ua and зʼявок-є.kh.ua, created by specialists at Hostmaster (which maintains the .UA domain) and Koordinator (regional domains for Eastern Ukraine).

These domains were created as an experiment to determine whether it is possible to implement an apostrophe in a domain name and what technical issues might arise.meat.kh.uaA fully functioning test site has been posted.

Hostmaster's next step is to change its domain registration rules so that Ukrainian registrars can delegate apostrophe-containing domains to anyone.

To enter the apostrophe symbol in the Windows operating system, hold down the alt key and type "700" on the numeric keypad.
