The Ukrainian government may soon approve the Cyrillic top-level domain .УКР. This was reported byLIGABusinessInform, citing the words of the director of the Ukrainian Network Information Center (USIC) Yuriy Goncharuk.

If the Ukrainian government decides positively on the .УКР domain issue, the procedure for its delegation will be resumed.

Honcharuk recalled that submitting an application for an ICANN top-level domain is only possible with the support of the national government. Such support existed last year, but the State Committee on Informatization intervened in Ukraine's process of obtaining the .УКР domain, deeming the creation of the .УКР domain premature.

The Ukrainian Center for Information and Communications (USIC) is awaiting an official letter from the Prime Minister regarding domain issues. Goncharuk cites the activity of registrants in the .РФ domain zone as an example. "The pace of registrations in .РФ is a good response to all the statements. Moreover, the Ukrainian domain is even more universal than .РФ, as it allows for domain registration in both Ukrainian and Russian," Goncharuk emphasized.
