The auction was organized by Nominet. Several domain names in the .CO.UK domain were sold during the auction. The total amount spent at the auction exceeded £3 million.

The average price for a single-letter domain at auction was $60,000. The most expensive domains were x.co.uk and o.co.uk.

Specifically, the social network Facebook purchased the fb.co.uk domain, Mercedes-Benz purchased mb.co.uk, and fashion brand H&M purchased hm.co.uk. Google bid for g.co.uk, but lost the auction, ending up in the hands of a company specializing in internet investment.

The buyer of 170 domain names at once paid half a million pounds.

A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Nominet Trust, which provides secure internet access worldwide.
