Yandex plans to get its own top-level domain

Yandex has applied to register its own top-level domain under the New gTLD program.

Currently, this is the only Russian company to announce an application for a new top-level domain. Previously, there was talk of an application submitted by the Coordination Center for TLD RU for the .ДЕТИ domain. Applications for domains such as .SKOLKOVO, .МОСКВА, and .MOSCOW were also considered.

Yandex's new domain will be called .yandex. However, the exact websites that will be hosted on the new domain are currently unknown. However, it's possible that Yandex will become a registrar and offer its clients who want to create a website using Yandex's services a domain in the .yandex domain extension.

As a reminder, the cost of submitting an application for a new domain will cost the company $185,000. Applications will be accepted until 11:59 PM UTC (Coordinated Universal Time) on May 30 or 4:59 AM Kyiv time on May 31.

Analysts have estimated that technical maintenance of a top-level domain could cost a company between $1.5 million and $5 million.
