The application for the allocation of the IDN domain .УКР has successfully passed the next stage of review.

On March 1, 2010, ICANNreportedon the successful completion of the String Evaluation stage of the native language domain zone (IDN) declared by Ukraine.

Details on Ukraine's successful completion of the second phase of the .УКР domain zone allocationprovided on the ICANN websiteIt was also stated that Ukraine can now seek the delegation of an IDN top-level domain. Completing the second stage does not necessarily mean that such a domain will be delegated, but Ukraine can now submit a request for its delegation.

The IDN domain name allocation process was approved by the ICANN Board of Directors at its annual meeting in Seoul, South Korea, on October 30, 2009. Under the process, countries and territories can submit requests to ICANN for the allocation of IDN top-level domains (IDN ccTLDs) in their national languages.

When submitting requests for IDN domain allocation, a number of requirements must be met:

The process of submitting a request and its evaluation consists of three stages:

1. Preparation by the applicant. This involves establishing internet community consensus regarding the IDN being applied for, demonstrating which organization will manage the new IDN, and preparing and collecting all necessary supporting documents.
2. String Evaluation. Requests to ICANN are evaluated according to the criteria described above: these are the technical and linguistic requirements for the IDN root domain. Applications received through the online systemavailable for viewing, as well as additional materials for the process.
3. String Delegation. If the domain zone evaluation criteria are successfully met, an application for domain zone delegation is permitted. It will undergo the same review process by ICANN and IANA as root domains based on the standard ASCII code. The domain zone delegation process is submitted to the IANA root zone management organization for review.

Thus, a total of 25 countries have received dedicated national language domain name (IDN) records. Of these, 17 have already been delegated and are already registering, while the remaining countries are preparing to begin the process. For these countries, the IDN domain delegation process will be carried out using a shortened procedure.

ICANN welcomes the allocation of IDN domains and is ready to consider other applications for these domain zones.
