PP.UA Domain Restrictions

Domains in the PP.UA zone are free and essentially function like domains in any other domain zone.

This means you can use this domain for your website, and it will work.

However, this domain zone has several distinctive features.

Below we will review them all in detail:

1. Domain needs activation.

Since the domain is free, registration cannot be confirmed with payment. The PP.UA domain is tied to your phone number (not to your account, but specifically to your phone).

To activate, the registry will send you an SMS with a code, which you need to enter on the PP.UA website, or you can activate the domain using the Telegram bot. Both activation methods are described in detail in the corresponding article.

When renewing, the domain also needs activation, so if your phone number has changed, do not forget to send a request to support@nic.ua to change the number in the domain data.

2. WHOIS data for these domains is public

According to the domain zone rules, the data about the domain owner is public. It cannot be hidden. In addition, this data must be accurate.

3. The domain can be renewed no earlier than 4 months before expiration

If you are used to renewing domains closer to the end of their term, you probably won’t notice any difference.

If you need to renew the domain earlier, you may notice that the renewal button is inactive. According to the domain rules, renewal is possible starting from 4 months before the expiration date.

4. You can register no more than 3 domains per number within 30 days

PP.UA domains are tied to your phone number, including for restrictions.

You can submit 3 registration requests using your number within 30 days. This means that once you click register and place the order, your request is sent to the registry and the domain awaits activation. Even if for some reason you did not activate this domain and the registry closed the request, it will still be counted.

The same applies to already active orders. If you have three domains registered less than 30 days ago and need a fourth, you will not be able to close an existing domain and register a new one — the request has already been counted regardless of the domain’s fate.

What can you do?

If you have a second number – register a new domain using this number in the registrant data. Make sure to check the number in the data before confirming the order. From your second number, you will also need to activate the new domain.

If there is no second number, you will need to wait 30 days from the registration of one of the last three domains.

Despite all the restrictions described in this article, the domain works exactly like any other domain. It does not become paid over time, and its visibility in search engines does not differ from other domains.
