What is LSI copywriting?

Every time we enter a search query into our browser, we see a list of suggestions from Google. The search engine strives to provide users with the most relevant results, selected using the latest indexing methods. To effectively integrate these methods, ensure priority over competitors, and ensure a website's ranking on the first page of a user's search query, it uses LSI (latent semantic indexing).

Just ten years ago, search engines analyzed the correspondencewebsiteA keyword-rich query. And the SEOs of the time simply stuffed texts with "keywords," without much regard for preserving the meaning. Such texts were practically impossible to read, but they were well indexed by search engines and appeared on the first pages of search results.

Algorithms gradually improved, and machines learned to analyze queries and determine whether a page matches a user's search query based on intent—words that indicate the user's intention. Keyword terms were divided into two categories: commercial and informational, making it possible to differentiate search categories and present only commercial offers to those seeking to make a purchase. Processing informational queries remained a challenge, as the number of websites was enormous and continued to grow daily, complicating the already challenging task of returning the most relevant pages to the user.

To solve this problem, Google, and later Yandex, began to use latent semantic indexing, or LSI for short.

The principle behind its operation is that search engines, when analyzing texts for a client's query, consider not only keywords but also related words that help develop the topic: thematic words and phrases, synonyms, and associations found in standard thematic queries. The more thematic words used in a text, the higher its ranking with search engines. Therefore, when writing a text, an LSI copywriter uses not only keywords but also thematic words and phrases that trigger search engine algorithms.

The benefits of LSI copywriting

  • informativeness of texts and, accordingly, an increase in the time a person spends on the site;
  • reducing the percentage of visitor refusals due to the inconsistency of the information provided with the user’s request;
  • the ability to rank for low-frequency queries due to less competition in the segment, and, accordingly, an increase in the number of clients and sales;
  • Building up link mass through the presence of interesting content that is attractive to the user.

Cons of LSI Copywriting

  • the method considers each word out of context, without taking into account the relationship and order of words in sentences, so that even incoherent text may seem relevant to the machine;
  • The machine does not recognize figures of speech: irony, sarcasm, allegories, metaphors, ignoring them, therefore, when using such techniques, the topic of the text may not coincide with the user's request;
  • the robot can highlight some words while ignoring others, which may include the main keywords;
  • The high cost of LSI texts. An author capable of thoroughly researching a topic, systematizing the information, and presenting it in an engaging and accessible manner is expensive.

LSI tail queries

The popularity of LSI texts is explained not only by the ranking of pages by queries, but also by the use of "tail queries," which can ensure a site attracts up to 50% of traffic from search engines.

Tail queries are detailed, low-frequency search queries typically entered once or twice a month, or perhaps even less frequently. They are called tail queries because they contain a large number of relevant keywords. The more relevant keywords used, the more tail queries are automatically captured, which means more users come to the website. This is the main goal of this method: to attract users even in the face of fierce competition for primary keywords.

It's worth noting that LSI copywriting doesn't replace SEO, but rather serves as a complementary element to modern promotion methods. When used in conjunction with SEO, LSI copywriting improves rankings.website, increases traffic, attracts customers, increases sales and helps gain the trust of search engines.
